An IAEA delegation visited Pakistan from 20-22 February 2024. The delegation comprised Ms. Lydie Evrard, Deputy Director General (DDG), Ms. Anna Hajduk Bradford, Director and Mr. Zia Hussain Shah, Senior Nuclear Safety Officer of IAEA. During the visit, the delegation visited Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), and Pakistan's National Centre of Excellence (PCENS). The DDG also held meetings with the senior officials of PNRA, PAEC and PCENS, who briefed her on the nuclear safety and security regime of the country. Discussions during these meetings were focused on further enhancement of cooperation between Pakistan and IAEA in the areas of peaceful applications of nuclear technology. The DDG recognized the support being provided by Pakistan to the IAEA and appreciated the efforts of Pakistan in the area of Nuclear Safety and Security. DDG also assured continuing IAEA support and collaboration in future.
During the visit, an agreement was also signed between PNRA and IAEA for extension in scope of PNRA’s in-house training center NISAS as an IAEA collaborating center to include nuclear safety and radiation protection. Earlier NISAS was designated as an IAEA collaborating center for Nuclear Security last year.
